New Testimonial - Online Tanner Times

I really liked the Tanner Time and the way everything was explained "why" in a rational reasonable way.  (Not because Lynn says so!)  She explained why.  I really liked the learning atmosphere.  It is hard to learn when you are stressed and feeling judged.  I never felt stressed or judged the whole weekend.  I was even calmer before the jackpots then usual. This is the bet "clinic" that I have ever attended in 25 years.  I left feeling confident and excited to start practicing tomorrow. Robin Bennett

Thanks for all the information and your willingness to share.  I really appreciated the details, specific hands on training and breaking the run down one barrel at a time.  Also I appreciated the smaller # of students we got more done that way.  Your church service was beautiful.  Hope to schedule you all in Iowa.   Carol Lowery

I went online and bought my Tanner Times.  I was amazed at what I learned from them.  This past weekend my horse was only 2 tenths of a second off the fastest 1D times (two separate barrel races) after only one tuning on my horse on her weak spots.  The last one I went to, my mare sort of bogged down at the second barrel and came to a complete stop then took off for the third.  I figured we MIGHT    RUN A 3 OR 4D TIME after that boo boo.  The fastest horse ran 17.4 seconds and when they called out our time, I nearly dropped my teeth.  My Mare had run a 17.6!!!  We had made up so much time on the other parts of the pattern (thanks to the Tanner Times analysis) that she was still only 2 tenths of a second off the fastest time!

I still have some rough area's to smooth out on my mare (I've only had her a short time), but I do believe I will be back on the pro circuit mighty soon thanks to those Tanner Times... and the Man upstairs.  he knows that I NEED the money my mare can earn for my family.  My husband has Alzheimer's and can no longer work.

Testimonials From the Lynn McKenzie/ Tanner Time

"It's really the greatest barrel racing tool available today, the combination of the state of the art, Tanner Times, along with Lynn's expertise is incredible."  "The Tanner Time System is basically 5 different timers strategically set up in the arena to read 7 different segments of time, it breaks your run down into 7 segments, you then get a print out of that, spelled out in a diagram and listed in caparison to other runs, including the fastest run of that show.   With all this information you get to see in print exactly where your strengths and weaknesses are.

With the comparisons you get to see exactly where you are losing time and how much time you are losing.  Then Murray uses production quality video equipment, and tapes that same run, now you not only have it dissected in written form but you can also see what you are doing in those already detected weak spots frame by frame.  Then after all this Lynn, with her expertise, takes you and your horse back out to the arena and helps you fix your problems.  Sometimes the problems may seem very small, but this fine tuning can result in shaving tenths off your run, and often tenths are what determine payback in this sport." Lynn expects that you are an advanced rider on a advanced horse, she doesn't require that you ride her "technique" but she expects that you have a good technique of your own she will spend some time getting you on the "same page", but this clinic’s not about teaching you technique its about fine tuning your times. From my own personal experience, I determined that at my first lab, I was able to shave about 4 tenths off my time, and then over that summer I was able to gradually shave off another 4 tenths, by going back over my tanner time print outs from the lab and my video. Just by studying them even months later, your able to pick up on things that you can keep improving on, because often we as limited humans can only fix one thing at a time, once you've fixed one thing you can then determine what else you can work on. With the help of my tape and tanner times, I was able to continue to fine tune, months later.

Dear Shane and Lanette:

First of all I wanted to tell you both how much I enjoyed meeting you at the Rocky Mountain Super Race in Colorado Springs earlier this month.  I also wanted to tell you how much I learned from reading my Tanner Time.  When the barrel race started Friday, I was running a 19.3 (I know  - I surely wasn’t setting any world records), and with the help of the Tanner Time, I shaved a whole second off my time by my last run on Sunday (an 18.3).  I was real proud of my horse (and myself).

I am really looking forward to the Barrel Racing Lab in La Veta.  It’s not really a long drive for me, and even thought my home-town rodeo is going on that weekend, I feel like I’ll get so much more from the Lab.  Besides, the rodeo will always be there – it’s been going on now for over 40 years
Regards
Stacey Sanchez

Hi Shane and Lanette,

I enjoyed reading the attached message and commend Claire for taking the time to write and thank you.

I too have learned a great deal from the “Tanner Times” that I have got from you at the events in Colorado Springs.  It amazes me that every time I am losing precious split seconds, it is always not where I expect.
Thank you, Lynda

“Having attended more barrel racing clinics of some of the industry’s most renowned instructors I have come to the conclusion that the Lynn McKenzie/Tanner Time Barrel Racing Lab offers the most valuable information on optimizing the barrel run than any clinic known to me.  This lab takes the barrel racer to a whole new level of understanding, yet as scientific as it may be it is presented in a manner that is easily understood, practical and effective.   I have made more progress with my barrel racing during the 3 days of this lab than with all my previous clinics and private instructions combined.  In addition to the training progress your spiritual contribution has both inspired and convicted me regarding this sport.”

“Really enjoyed the lab, this approach will make a difference in your run”   “Well worth the money”

“When I was shown the pattern style I thought no way, the Tanner Time comparison proved me wrong.  You can’t argue with the clock”

“I couldn’t have enjoyed or learned more anywhere.  I feel  I grew not only in my ability and knowledge of barrel racing but, I also grew personally.  I learned to trust myself and my horse and that maybe I know more than I thought.  Many times I watched girls run this style and was amazed at the speed they had but was unable to explain to myself or others what I was seeing.  Instead of watching these girls close I listen to all my friends that the time was not right.   And assumed they knew more than me so they must be right.  The confidence to listen to myself and my horse was probably the most important thing for me to learn at this time.”

“I learned so much…. And I have learned to understand the run better.  I know my times will improve.  Thanks for all of your help!”

“ You can’t put a price on knowledge you take it with you and get your money back 10x’s over”

“I felt it was the most worth while clinic I have attended.  It challenged me to change and presented some new ideas, I hadn’t ever heard.  The spiritual aspect soothed our souls”

Dear Lanette:
I wanted to send you a note of thanks.  I won my first WPRA check on May 5th at the WPRA Divisional Tour, Rocky Mountain Super Race, Colorado Springs, CO.  Not only did I win a check - it was a first place check!!

I have to tell you that I feel that the Tanner Times from my Friday and Saturday runs really played a part in my being successful on Sunday.  My husband and I analyzed the Tanner Times from the previous runs and could tell where I needed to make some adjustments.  For example, we could tell that I was a little long going to the first barrel.  Knowing that I make a pretty big arc to first, we decided that I should try to angle in, just a little, to save a tenth or two.  Also, we noted where I hustled by whipping between the 2nd and 3rd barrels that I gained one tenth, but lost three tenths in my 3rd barrel turn.  This clearly indicated that I should let my mare pick her pace to third and she would turn it quicker.  Amazingly, I took a half second off my time.

I attribute my success on May 5, 2002 to the encouragement of my husband, Tom and son, Kyle - and Tanner Times.  The combination of these enabled me to put together a run and win that I'll never forget.
Tanner Times are truly a useful tool for the sport of barrel racing.  I can't thank you enough!
Sincerely,

Claire Hanson

Tanner Time by Pegasus Advanced Barrel Racing Lab With Lynn McKenzie

What a way to spend a weekend if you are a barrel racer, in cool, beautiful La Veta Colorado.  This was a weekend for advanced riders and their horses to learn about their barrel pattern with Tanner Time consultants, Shane and Lanette Pritchard and two time World Champion, Lynn McKenzie. They wanted advanced riders with horses in their second year or more of barrels who where out there competing every weekend and needing to optimize their barrel pattern to pickup a ½ second or less.

The basis of this lab was to use 21st century technology to find the fastest pattern for each individual horse.  Tanner Time breaks the pattern up into seven segments using a system of laser timers and computers.  This allows the rider to evaluate the pattern piece by piece to determine the effects of changes made in the pattern during the lab.  The process is started by a competition run that is Tanner Timed and video taped using high resolution professional video equipment.  This run is then analyzed so that the arena work can begin with focus points in mind.  In the arena, orange discs are used to mark guide points around the barrels.  It is these guide points that allow the process to be documented so that a computer generated trace of your optimized pattern can be done.  Once some slow work is done in the arena with the markers to get the horses and riders ready to use the system, the riders begin to work on the individual segments of the pattern.  The markers are fine tuned to the style and ability of the individual horse based on the timed segments provided by Tanner Time.  Therefore, the team goes away knowing that they are getting the most from their runs.

Throughout the weekend, Lynn shared her outstanding knowledge of barrel racing and about the horse who does the work, such as joints, shoeing, positioning, bits and tack.  She also shared with the riders on how to compete under pressure.  The riders were able to work their horses in the arena with Tanner Time to find that pattern that fit their barrel horse to help them make the most optimum pattern to stop the clock. Then when the student and Lynn decide that the pattern was plotted out just right for that student and horse, we timed it with again Tanner Time to make sure they were running the optimum pattern.

Each student received a personalized notebook to keep their Tanner Times and notes as well as their printed out optimum barrel pattern with measurements for markers.  These markers can then be used in the practice pen to reinforce the optimum pattern in the horse and rider’s minds.  Murray also gave a videotape of their runs to each student to study with their Tanner Times at home.  At the end of the lab, the students competed in a open 4-D jackpot put on by a local barrel racing association.  Each student improved his or her runs but Linda Neldner from Walsenburg, Colorado won the most improved award after her competition run.  The students were each given a certificate of completion for the Tanner Time and Lynn McKenzie Advanced Barrel Racer Lab.

The combination of Tanner Time’s advanced timing technology and the barrel racing and horse knowledge of Lynn McKenzie puts together the most advanced barrel racing information in the world for the competing barrel racer wanting to find those precious tenths.

After the first lab, it was easy to see that in order to get the maximum benefit of the technology and bring as much information as possible to the students the labs will have to be three day events.  Future labs will not only provide you with Tanner Time technology and Lynn McKenzie but, will also incorporate other equine specialists such as vets, farriers, equine dentists, equine chiropractors and much more.  You will be able to come to the Optimized Barrel Racing Lab to not only find help with your barrel pattern but also with your horses’ soundness and health.  If you are in the barrel racing profession and want to find the absolute optimum pattern for YOUR horse, this may be the lab for you.  They work with each student as if they are on their way to the NFR, making sure all the bases are covered when it comes to you and your horse.

Following is a testimonial from Lanette Pritchard on her experience with Lynn McKenzie

I have been working with Tanner Time by Pegasus for three years and running barrels since I was a child.  I ride a horse named Spinner, my gift from god.  I trained him five years ago and since then he has won several titles for myself and a good friend of mine, Jerry Marie Smith.  She ran him in Texas and Oklahoma, winning several Sr. Pro barrel races and year-end tittles.  He was as solid as you can get turning barrels and using Tanner Time all these years has shown that Spinner had some really fast turns but he was getting out run in the straights at the super shows we time.  My husband was convinced that the horse just did not have the speed to run with the really good barrel horses and I was also starting to think that I needed to get a different horse.  I got to work with Lynn for the first time at a clinic in Tyler, Texas in May.  I did not get to ride Spinner during the clinic due to some shoeing problems but I was able to run him in the last jackpot on Sunday.  He ran the fastest time and he had the fastest turns over all.  But, we were loosing a lot of time in the straights compared to the other horses.  Now, thinking that I was an experienced barrel racer, I was really hesitant about Lynn watching my run on video.  I knew I had to do something to improve my barrel pattern but I did not want to hear how I trained my horse wrong or that I was not a good rider.   Letting someone with Lynn’s’ knowledge critique my run on video is like opening up the most private part of my heart to let someone else tell you what you love to do might not be your thing.   I knew if I did allow her to view it with me she might be able to help me to keep running this horse that I loved.  I was relieved to find out that Lynn is not the kind of person to tear you down or talk to you like she is above you.  She found some things to work on but was very positive at the same time.  Lynn pointed out to me that my approach to the 1st barrel was too tight and I was leading him around the barrel.  She told me that if I would lay my rein up against his neck when I got to the barrel and change my approach to the barrel a little I could pickup some time on my first barrel.   She also went over a few other points in my run that were costing some time.  I am slow to change old habits and so I was only able to think about one change at a time.  We went back to Colorado and I ran Spinner at the next local barrel race and I tried the new approach that Lynn suggested and the rein change and, wow, it worked!  My first barrel was much smoother and faster.  So, after that, we kept improving on our 1st barrel but we were placing 3rd and missing 1st place by a tenth for about the next four shows here at home. Then we went to a D&G Super Series show in Waco TX.  I ran my 1st run on Friday and was a 16.505 with a knocked down barrel, the winning time was a 15.869.  My Tanner time showed that I went too fast into my 1st barrel causing me to run passed it, and on the way out of it I hit it because I was out of position.  I then had Lynn go over the alley and the approach to the 1st barrel with me.  She also believed that I was loosing a tenth due to my third barrel.  Lynn said that the positioning and shape of the turns was responsible for the slow straight segments.  So after studying my Tanner time and listening to what Lynn said about the alley and the position of the 1st barrel I knew in my next run I could shave off 3 tenths and be at the top of the 2-D on Saturday.   Well, on my run on Saturday I did just like I planned, I got my 1st barrel and was a 16.203 but unfortunately the winning time for that day was a 15.755.  I was 5 hundredths of a second to fast to win the 2-D.   Once again, I studied my Tanner Time and had Lynn watch the video with me.  This time she told me how to approach the 3rd barrel a little different to make up some more time.  On our third run, we corrected most of the problem on the 3rd barrel and had our fastest run of the weekend, 15.980, which was one out of the money in the 1-D!  The winning time was 15.667.  Spinner’s awesome turn times remained but as a result of the changes to the position and shape of the turns, his straight segments improved to put him in the running for the 1-D money.  I may not of picked up a check that weekend but, I do know that between Tanner Time and Lynn McKenzie I am very close to the optimum barrel pattern for my horse and he can run with the top 1-D horses.  So if you are looking for that proven winning edge look no farther, be sure to sign up for our next Tanner Time and Lynn McKenzie barrel racing lab.  We will be offering several labs in the year 2001 so write or call today to sign up.  We do ask that you send a video of your latest runs for us to study before the lab.
