Nancy Sobey and Bill Here's a picture of Bill from our finals this year.  I am trying to ride properly .. and when I do, WOW...  Didn't have Bill out much this year as I've been working hard on a couple of others, but he really came thru for me at the finals and IF I hadn't screwed up would have won the 2nd day for sure.  Guess I should have had him out more this summer.  We just have to get our timing down... Dick & I both can sure see how easy it is for a horse to run the correct pattern and how much time is lost on the "old way".

We get compliments on our horses' patterns where ever we go. It sure is working for us.

Hey, there were some pro girls from Alberta here and they saw my big red horse run. And we had offers on him... they couldn't believe how well he runs for hardly being out and such a beautiful pattern .... now that should tell them right there that the program works you would think.
I first meet Brandi and Sawyer Brown the year of 2000, Brandi started to study her Tanner Times after her first run at every show that Tanner Time was present.  Each time we would go over her run and find out were she was loosening time, then we would make a plan to correct the problem on her next run.  Brandi would always improve her times after each run.  Brandi and Sawyer are a great team in the fact that they can change things for the next run and make it happen.  Brandi states that Tanner Time has always helped her and Sawyer to better their runs for the next race. Callie Ferguson, age 9, 2003

This is a picture shows Callie's winning after attending a lab in 2003.

"We took Callie to a Tanner Time and Lynn McKenzie lab in Texas March of 2003. WOW!"

"What a difference it made.  I wasn't really sure how much a 9 year old could grasp but she really came home with a lot and put it to the test.  The Tanner Time really broke down a lot of the aspects of barrel racing and we all really learned a lot.  Thank you for being so patient with Callie.  I know teaching a 9 year old can have it's challenges, and for that her father and I are grateful.  God has truly blessed you with a gift of teaching and we thank you for sharing it.  Also a big thank you to Lanette and Shane for all their help.  We look forward to bringing Callie to another Lab in the future.

God Bless, Hoyt, Missi and Callie Ferguson

Big winners our lab students and my girls!

Linda Ghent, Carol Ellis and Penny Lloyd

Not only was it great to see some girls from Colorado after being out on the road for two months, but it was even better to watch them do so well at the Utah American West Regional show in May.  Thanks for the picture

WE ARE WAITING FOR A PICTURE?

Hello my name is Christine Wright from Bloomfield NM. I attended your lab in Kirtland NM. In March of last year. I just thought that I would thank all of you for the help that you have given to me and my horse Cherry. We have gotten so much faster and we are in control now! I have learned how to keep my hands down now and she runs so much better. I won my first saddle in July 2003. After your  lab. I thank you so much.
Thank you Lynn and Tanner time.
I hope that you come back here again for another lab.
Again Thank You
Christine Wright

We recently attended another lab at Berthoud, CO where we won the buckle for the fastest time at the final jackpot.  This was a great confidence booster and shows we can compete with barrel racers from all over.

The tuition for the labs is $450.  When I attended my first lab, I stayed home from enough barrel races to save this amount.  If you count all your expenses involved in going to barrel races, this really doesn’t take very long.  I decided I wanted to get better and I needed someone with expertise to help me.  I might have gotten better on my own in time going to lots of barrels races, but what is that going to cost?  And this way I learn the correct way to do things.

I owe a lot of my success to the Lynn McKenzie / Tanner Time Barrel Racing Labs.  I intend to go to at least one lab a year to keep improving and riding in the style that can take you to the pay window.  Where else can you go for three full days of instruction with four full time instructors, get Tanner Times of each jackpot run and a video of each jackpot run, full speed and slow motion?  These labs are limited to 20 students.  This enables you to get all the one on one attention you desire.  Lynn, Murray, Shane and Lanette will give you all the help you desire.  Believe me, you’ll be ready for a break!

I feel really good about my future with my current horse, Donnie, and I feel I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills that will help me with my other horses.

I attended my first Lynn McKenzie/ Tanner Time Lab at Athens, Texas in February, 2002.  My horse and I were both fairly green.  To tell the truth, the main reason I wanted to attend was for the Tanner Time system to evaluate my runs.  Tanner Times are great, but when you combine Tanner Times with Lynn and Murray McKenzie’s expertise, you have a combination that cannot be beat.  What they teach you is backed by the Tanner Times.  I improved greatly from this lab.  I won the fastest time buckle and we consistently knocked .5 off of our runs after this lab.  I went home and worked on what I had learned, and then after a few months, I was ready for more instruction to go on to the next level.  There weren’t any labs scheduled in Texas, so we hosted our first lab in Snyder, Texas.  But I guess I need to back up a little.  On the final day of each lab, Cowboy Church is held.  I cannot truly describe how absolutely great these church services are.  Lynn and Murray preach a powerful sermon.  When you have someone deliver a sermon in such a down-to-earth manner, you get a great feeling from it.  I personally get more from the church service than anything else. We held our first lab in Snyder, Texas in July, 2002.  I feel like after each lab, my horse and I have progressed greatly.  We are now at the point of needing that fine tuning that makes the difference between a check or no check.  The technique they teach is basically common sense with computer expertise to back it up.  They call it “The Science of Speed”.  At the labs, the first thing you do is run in a jackpot as you are used to running.  This run is timed with Tanner Time and Murray McKenzie videos this run.  It is absolutely amazing what Murray can tell you about your run in one viewing.  Then the work begins.  Each lab is three full, hard working days with four full time instructors helping you the whole time.  Lynn, Murray, Shane and Lanette each are very experienced and great teachers.  The video you receive after the lab and the Tanner Times give you great teaching tools to use after you are back at home.

We held another lab at Snyder, Texas in March, 2003. At each lab, I feel I learned a little more and have gotten better and better.  Sometimes, I have forgotten some little something I learned at a previous lab, or maybe I have just not kept using the correct technique.  I won my first saddle at Abilene in June, 2003 at the NBHA Cowboy Nationals.  We won the average in the 2D.  We’ve come a long way and we still have room for some improvement.

Jennifer Wilson, perfected her own winning style after attending a number of Lynn McKenzie Barrel racing clinics.  Picture complements from BHN
The next weekend Christine won 7th in the 2-D at the Newcastle Spring Fling winning $157.92.  Congratulation Christine and Cowboy

Big Saddle Winners

  • following
  • New Mexico Lab 501
  • Noah Jacobs
  • OJ Waldroup
  • Joyce Arviso

OJ Waldroup won the 1-D Saddle the following weekend after attending her first Lynn McKenzie & Tanner Time Advanced Barrel Racing Lab 501.  OJ and horse Shut Up & Deal have done very well since attending the Lab.  OJ stated " when I do the steps right as taught at the lab we beat everyone by at least 2 tenths.  The great thing that I learned from the Lab was that I can now diagnose what happen in my run to make my horse or myself do what we did  and then the next run I can work it.  I have taught barrel racing for a long time but this is defiantly the science of barrel racing put together in a way that is teachable.  I can't wait for a follow-up lab".

What a wonderful blessed weekend my NBHA District Finals was for me and my horse Fresky, held the weekend after the Lab in Kirtland, NM.   It was sure a busy weekend.  It started with Fresky and I running a 17.004 on our first run putting us in 1st for the 2-D also qualifying for the Incentive Saddle Race.  The second run we ran a 17.1??  Out of 13 barrel racers we ran the closest to our time and won the saddle.  This is funny: I also won the "first hat off" award which was a hat tie string.  I also took 3rd in the 2D, 2002 District Points that I was not expecting.   So it sure was a great weekend.  Fresky did an excellent job with a little jitters at the beginning.   We were all so proud and thankful for the Lab, I really had a awesome time.  Looking forward to the next Lab.  Thank you all again and I will keep you posted on our progress as races come and go.  Take care and God Bless.  Joyce Arviso

Success follows Labs by Carol Ellis

Even though I make my living by training barrel horses and giving barrel racing clinics I believe a person can always learn something from someone if they are flexible and open minded. I also believe a person should be in a constant state of education. If you are not you become stagnant and eventually, especially in the horse industry, you will get left in the dust.
I do not usually attend barrel racing clinics with a horse. I will go watch and learn but I am very satisfied with the results I produce with my program here at home and I am slow to change unless I can see the proof that there is a better way.
I attended my first Lynn McKenzie Lab in 2001. I felt I needed someone to instruct me instead of me instructing someone. I needed a new perspective on a young horse I had been struggling with at the first barrel--which was frustrating for me because that is usually my toughest barrel on my horses. What I found was this: Lynn basically uses the same format and technique in training her horses that we do here. I got some excellent ideas on lining up the first barrel and some helpful hints on instructing riders in the pattern. More than that she helped me pick a bit that I would never have thought to use on this horse that gave me the control I need on him to complete a successful first barrel.
By combining the teaching and the Tanner Times theory becomes fact. You can see that the techniques used by   Lynn make your runs faster by comparing the Tanner Times on each run. They also use very clear videos in slow motion to analyze each run. These videos are taken by Murray, Lynn's husband. Videos don't lie and neither does the Tanner Time nor does Murray. It is all very scientific. They will even measure (with a tape measure) the perfect pocket for your horse as an individual.

The first year I came home really patting myself on the back because Lynn and Murray and Tanner Time helped me to see that what I was doing with my training program was right on the mark but better than that with the help from Lynn, Tanner Time and the new bit. I started winning on this horse! The first run I made on him after the clinic he ran one tenth off the arena record! To say I was thrilled is an understatement. Not only that we finished the year by winning the 2001/2002 Colorado American West Senior Division, 2002 Reserve Champion Colorado Cup Senior, and 2002 Division Champion in the Competitive Barrel Racers Alliance and 2001/2002 Champion 40 and Over in the Colorado Barrel Racing Association ( I would like to add here that Opie and I earned $400 more that the Open Division Champion).

I also encouraged a number of my students to attend the lab with me and they have all had a successful year.

I attended another lab in 2002 with several of my students and found that Lynn and Tanner Time have perfected the combination even more. We rode, learned and laughed a lot! Lynn and Murray also make the Lab worth the price just for the Sunday Service. Their love of the Lord and willingness to share the gospel are truly an inspiration to anyone who is lucky enough to spend time with them.

In closing my ramblings I also want to thank Lanette Pritchard for encouraging me to attend my first lab and to Shane Pritchard who has the patience of a saint and is not only great with the Tanner Time but is a pretty good mechanic too!

To all of you--Thank you!

Testimony from Cindi Hutchison 2002

I went to my first Tanner Time / Lynn McKenzie advanced barrel-racing lab in July 2002.  It was three full days of connecting my mind with my horses as well as my mind on what I’m supposed to be doing while I’m running barrels.  I had no clue what to expect prior to that weekend.  I didn’t even know why it was called a lab.  All I knew was I was hearing very good things about it and I also knew I needed help.  I was in a slump; my balance was off as well as my concentration. I just couldn’t get it together.  I seem to be making the same mistakes over and over.  Some good runs and some not so good runs.  A full second needed to be shaved off my time.  I wanted to find that perfect communication with my horse. I needed that strong feeling in the saddle that comes from confidence.  You know, the one that makes your heart beat fast as your coming up the alley way, hat pulled down, ready to rock and roll.   I knew I was a good rider, but out of the blue I lost it and I needed to find it again.   This lab was quite an experience.  It gave me everything I wanted.  I can’t believe in just three days I was back on track better than ever.   I know now why it was called a lab instead of a clinic.  You remember when you were in school and you had science labs.  Well, this “LAB” is like the science of barrel racing.  It was like no other.  I was truly amazed!  Lynn McKenzie’s concept of what it takes to run barrels is light years above anything going. If you mix that with Tanner Time and Murray’s video work then you have one incredible teaching tool.  If you haven’t seen what Tanner Time can do for you, then your are missing out and Lynn McKenzie’s knowledge of the game is an experience I plan on having again and again. Do yourself a favor go to a lab.

During those three days.  I managed to take a 4-D horse that is only 14’1 and 875 pounds and put him in the 1-D the first weekend after the lab.  This was no easy task.  There was some tuff completion.  It was at Athens, Texas at a NBHA District 20 show.  I was tickled to death.  He
usually is in the 2-D now. If you don’t know, Texas NBHA Dist 20 is tuff, real tuff.  I’m happy in the 2-D on this horse.

A couple of important things that I’ve learned since going to the lab are that if you want to be smarter you have to go to school.  It’s unbelievable how many barrel racers pay those entry fees every weekend, weekend after weekend.  Hundreds of dollars they keep putting in other barrel racers pockets.  If they spend some of that money on going to a lab with Lynn McKenzie / Tanner Time maybe that money will be in their pockets.

In closing I want to say thank you to Lynn and Murray McKenzie and Shane and Lanette Pritchard for having so much to give.  They are the most caring people I have ever had the privilege to know.  God Bless them all.

   Sincerely,

 Cindi Hutchison
