The "New Lynn McKenzie Special" saddle is on the cutting edge of saddle design for speed events. We started by improving the saddle tree design to allow increased shoulder movement and freedom for the horse's hips to coil under the back of the saddle. These improvements, along with the unique rigging design, allows the weight of both saddle and rider to be distributed evenly along the horse's back.

Tree description:

Lynn McKenzie Special tree - Gullet or pommel measures 5  1/2" wide - Bars - 11" and between the bars underneath 3  1/2" wide.

Lynn McKenzie Wide Tree - Gullet or pommel measures 6  1/2" wide - Bars - 13" and between the bars underneath 4  1/2" wide.

Lynn says
"My saddle trees are handmade to my specification in New Braunfels, Texas. They are wood trees, fiberglass reinforced, and covered in a new material called Armor-coat. Rawhide covered trees are still available, but TESTS PROVE THAT THE NEW MATERIAL IS FAR SUPERIOR.  The saddles are built using Herman Oak skirting leather (one of the few tanners still operating in the US), and all hardware is stainless steel. My saddles are handmade at the Double J factory in Yoakum. Everything is made to order, (please allow about 4 weeks for delivery) so you can have it your way!"

You'll see a lot of innovative saddle designs on our web page. There are many examples of some of the creative things we can do. We'd appreciate the opportunity to build one for you!

Standard Features: Neoprene girth, Leather horn, leather and silver laced cantle with tooled overlay, stainless steel hardware, aluminum stirrups, fleece  lined cutaway skirts, biothane stirrup leathers, special 3-way rigging and  tooling, basket weave standard.

The rigging is the key to the way this saddle fits.  The uniquely designed hardware is hung on the biothane straps attached to the front and back of the bars.  The saddle can be rigged in only the front slots (7.8 rig), a "V" using both slots (3/4 rig), or in the back slots only (almost a "center fire" rig).  It is set back further than what has been common, taking pressure off the shoulders and withers.  By eliminating pressure points (which show up as dry spots when the saddle is removed), we allow the horse to move more comfortably under the saddle.

The "New Lynn McKenzie Special" saddles are hand made in Yoakum, Texas by Double J Saddlery on rawhide covered, fiberglass reinforced wood trees.  American tanned Herman Oak skirting leather is used along with stainless steel hardware.  Customizing is easy with a wide variety of hand tooled patterns, and seat and rawhide colors to choose from.  Standard features include cutaway skirts for closer contact, biothane stirrup leathers, polished aluminum stirrups, and Montana Silversmiths accents.  The saddles are hand oiled for a beautiful finish, and come "ready to ride".
